Where to buy books (+ disclosure)

There's nothing that beats browsing in a beautiful bookstore, thumbing through books that are potentially yours. Then again, shopping online is great fun because it offers searchbility, automatic recommendations and personal wishlists.

If you want to shop online, check out these sites:
  • The Book Depository - a UK site with very cheap books (by Australian standards, anyway), and free international shipping. If you don't like supporting Amazon, keep in mind that Amazon now owns The Book Depository and your money will go to them.
  • Minotaur - A brilliant Melbourne store dedicated to all those 'pop culture' things that aren't exactly mainstream. A great source for comics.
  • AbeBooks - another UK site, this one an excellent resource for chasing down out of print and hard to find books. While you're there, check out the Weird Book Room for a laugh.
  • Booktopia - the place where you can choose from a huge range of ebooks (thanks to Google ebooks) whilst still supporting an Australian business.
Until recently, I also listed fishpond, an Australian online store. I don't feel I can personally recommend them for these reasons, but if you wish to purchase through an Australian bookseller, you can visit fishpond.

Full disclosure: If you buy a book on fishpond or the Book Depository through a link I have provided, I will receive a commission. I will ALWAYS tell you exactly what I think of a book, and will NEVER recommend it unless I think it's worth recommending. I link to these sites because I think it's a better way to buy. If you are uncomforable with sending a commission my way, please consider opening a new window and shopping on one of these sites anyway.
